Google is reportedly canceling these upgrades and issuing refunds without users requesting them, leaving affected students without either subscription and, potentially, no way to recover their original free benefits.
Complaints have surfaced on Reddit and Google’s support forums, with multiple students describing a similar sequence. They signed up for a free 12-month Google AI Plus student offer, accepted a discounted AI Pro upgrade, and subsequently received unexpected cancellation and refund notices. Instead of returning to AI Plus, their accounts reverted to the free tier.
